Hays, Kan.—Dec. 8, 2021— Scott City, Kan., is the latest community to attain certification for its industrial business development site through the Sunflower Certified Sites Program. Certification of the site verifies the 97-acre tract of land meets rigorous criteria for industrial development.
The SCIP North – Lawrence Addition is the third business site certified by Sunflower’s program. The Dodge City Business Park achieved certification in March 2021, followed by Unified Greeley County’s 24-acre Tribune site in October. The program’s three certified sites total 365 acres.
Sunflower developed its certified sites program to create greater awareness of industrial opportunities within its members’ service territories spanning central and western Kansas. “Scott City is honored to have been selected as a pilot partner by Sunflower Electric Economic Development to pursue certified site status for the SCIP North – Lawrence Addition,” said Katie Eisenhour, executive director of Scott County Development Committee (SCDC). “When the City of Scott City acquired this property in 2019, it seemed logical to certify this large tract, which is adjacent to rail, highway and air transportation. Having this site readily available to industrial companies seeking relocation or expansion fills a high-priority need for us.
The city is prepared to offer several incentives to potential occupants and in-kind site infrastructure improvements, which is located within the city limits of Scott City, Kan., 1.2 miles east of US Highway 83 and immediately north of K96.
A benefit of the Sunflower Certified Sites Program is an independent third-party review of a site’s potential for industrial opportunities. Allstate Consultants performed the independent review.
